This is an interview from the February 15, 2010 episode of Democracy Now! where Amy Goodman interviews Dr. Gabor Maté. In this interview Maté discusses the relationship between the mind and the immune system and how repressing anger, and stress can lead to physical impairments, and weaken our immune system to fight off disease. Maté also explains the importance of the emotional state of the mother during pregnancy, and the subsequent environment the child is born into, stating that, “how we see the world, whether the world is a hostile or friendly place, whether we have to always do for ourselves and look after others, or whether we can actually expect and receive help from the world and our stress physiology” is very much shaped by these circumstances.
