Alexandra Silverthorne uses the camera as a means to understand and explore spatial environments and encounters. As projects evolve, her photographs often move beyond the mat and the frame to become sculptural objects, projections, and installations. Current projects include the examination of conceived, perceived, and lived space, instinctual explorations of architectural structures, and nocturnal documentation of unfamiliar landscapes.
The issue of the deterioration of the sense of community in American society has been pointed out in the book Bowling Alone: The Collapse And Revival of American Community, and is a core issue in improving the country’s standard of living. Cooperative home ownership helps build “social capital” by changing the relationship of “neighbors” from a loose network of independent people we live next to, to an interdependent network of individuals working to improve their living conditions.
My name is Jessica. I am an Atlanta native with a knack for finding myself in awkward and embarrassing situations. I recently quit my stable job and purchased a one-way-ticket to South America. Am I fearless? No. Am I crazy? Maybe. Am I ready for the endless possibilities ahead of me? I sure hope so. I love to travel and try not to take myself too seriously. Up to this point in my life, I’ve been fortunate to have had some unusual and incredible experiences: eating bugs in the rainforest, catching fish with my bare hands, running a marathon in Paris and swimming with penguins in the Galapagos. I once even lived with a pet monkey named Bruno … So come along and get lost with me!
Steve Weinberg, winner of the Nobel Prize, compares it to the following. Think of radio. If you’re inside your living room listening to BBC radio, that radio is tuned to one frequency. But in your living room there are all frequencies – radio Cuba, radio Moscow, the Top 40 rock stations. All these radio frequencies are vibrating inside your living room, but your radio is only tuned to one frequency. Now, in other words when two universes are in phase, they are coherent and you can move back and forth. But as time starts to evolve, these two universes decouple. They start to vibrate at different frequencies. They can no longer interfere with each other. So why is it that your radio cannot listen to Radio Moscow? Why isn’t it possible for your radio to listen to all frequencies? Because your radio is decohered. It is no longer vibrating in unison with these other frequencies.

Lead by Prof. Guy Deutscher, a leading physicist in the field of superconductivity. We are studying the, yet unknown, mechanism of superconductivity in high temperature superconductors. We are also dedicated to making the amazing physics of superconductors accessible and exciting for young and adults through the unique and counter-intuitive phenomena of ‘quantum trapping’ and ‘quantum levitation’
While in the short-term balancing the budget would require massive spending cuts that would result in increased job losses and a further decline in revenues (and then more cuts), ideally the government should easily be able to balance its budget (and preserve the social safety net) by increasing revenues by taxing the super-rich and closing corporate tax loopholes, as well as ending costly military adventurism overseas and cutting the defense budget … There are two standards in America. One for the rich and corporations, and one for the rest of society.
In the western world at the dawn of the 21st century, the forces of oligarchy, plutocracy, and aristocracy continue to plague and rule the lives of billions behind the cracking veneer of false democracy. Perhaps it is time for us, the people, to stop blindly hopping around like a mob of kangaroos and reclaim our authentic democracy from those who have stolen and distorted it. This blog is a small contribution to the global battle to democratize the processes of generating, disseminating, and controlling information.
This animation shows all important battles that took place over the last ten centuries. The sizes of the explosions and labels are proportional to the number of casualties.
The execution of Davis has opened the door for an opportunity to have a real dialogue about the use of death penalty in the United States. There are countless reasons why I believe the death penalty should be abolished in the U.S., but I’m going to focus on the three of which most Americans are likely unaware.
